Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
Laparoscopic hysterectomy is a minimally invasive surgical technique to remove the uterus using small incisions and a camera-guided instrument. It offers significant advantages over traditional open surgery, including faster recovery, less pain, and minimal scarring.
Advantages of Laparoscopic Approach
- Smaller incisions and minimal scarring
- Reduced blood loss during surgery
- Shorter hospital stay (1–2 days)
- Faster return to normal activities
- Lower risk of infection and complications
- Less post-operative pain
When is it Recommended?
- Uterine fibroids
- Endometriosis
- Adenomyosis
- Abnormal uterine bleeding
- Uterine prolapse
- Early-stage gynecological cancers
The Procedure
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. A laparoscope (thin camera) and surgical instruments are inserted through 3–4 small incisions in the abdomen. The uterus is detached and removed through the vagina or a small abdominal incision.
Recovery
Most patients are discharged within 1–2 days and can resume light activities within 2 weeks. Full recovery typically takes 3–4 weeks, significantly shorter than open surgery.
