Menopausal Problems

Menopause is when a woman stops having her periods, marking the end of her ability to have children. It includes the changes that happen just before or after periods stop, usually between ages 40-50.

What causes menopause?

Women are born with all their eggs stored in the ovaries. The ovaries also produce the hormones estrogen and progesterone, which control periods and egg release (ovulation). Menopause happens when the ovaries stop releasing eggs, and periods stop. This is a normal part of aging after 40.

Sometimes, menopause happens early, before age 40. This is called premature menopause. It can occur due to surgery (like ovary removal), damage to the ovaries (e.g., from chemotherapy), or other reasons.

Menopausal Problems

What causes premature menopause?

Premature menopause can happen due to genetics, immune system problems, or medical treatments. Common causes include:

1) Premature Ovarian Failure: This happens when the ovaries stop releasing eggs too early. Hormone levels change, but this condition is sometimes temporary and can improve over time.

2) Induced Menopause: This happens when ovaries are removed for medical reasons, such as treating uterine cancer or severe endometriosis. Radiation or chemotherapy can also damage ovaries and cause menopause.

What are the symptoms of menopause?

One of the most common symptoms is hot flashes — sudden feelings of heat that spread throughout the upper body, often followed with redness and sweating. The intensity can vary from mild to severe.

Other symptoms include:

1) Irregular or skipped periods
2) Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
3) Mood changes
4) Fatigue
5) Depression or irritability
6) A fast or racing heartbeat
7) Headaches
8) Joint or muscle pain
9) Low sex drive
10) Vaginal dryness
11) Difficulty controlling the bladder
